Pacific Crest Trail: Section G - From Walker Pass to Mount Whitney

Towards Walker Pass

Looking back towards Walker Pass from about a quarter mile from the trailhead.

Distant Saddle

Looking up the trail from the same spot as the last picture. The trail eventually passes behind the saddle to the left of the dirt road.

First Pass

This is looking back on the first pass you cross above Walker Pass. The trail then passes behind a couple more saddles before coming back out onto this side. It then crosses back behind the mountain at the saddle seen in the last picture.

Joshua Tree and Pine

Just around the corner from the seasonal stream that you pass before arriving at the Joshua Tree Spring trail. The Joshua Trees here were greener than any I had ever seen. Some even had fruit. This may have been due to the unusually wet winter this year (2005).

Joshua Tree Spring

This trough had fairly clean water fed by a pipe at the far end. A sign nearby says that the water should be considered unsafe to drink anf must be filtered or purified. The stream was running about 15 feet behind this trough.

Two passes

In the background you see the pass that I crossed in the evening of my first night. In the foreground is the next pass I crossed a short time later that same evening. Joshue Tree Spring is just around the corner from the hill below the passes.
