The trail begins at the back of the Tuolumne Meadows Group Campgrounds. It starts out simple enough, with an easy climb up to Elizabeth Lake. However, this easy climb can be a challenge if you are not acclimated.
The trail flattens out as we near Elizabeth Lake. The trail forks right to the lake, but we go straight and wind around the lake and climb to the pass which is towards the right of the picture. The path, which is no longer a trail, becomes quite steep with a very short flat section about half way up.
The pass may be difficult to cross until as late as July depending on winter snow levels. Be carefull walking over it because you could slip and fall in.
Once at the pass we have an amazing view of Tuolumney Meadows to the North and Echo Creek valley to the south.
