There used to be a sign pointing out the Mountaineers Route. This sign, however, was missing last time I was there (July 1997).  I don't know if they plan to replace it. The sign you see in this picture points out the Whitney Trail. The Mountaineers Route begins immediately before the second river crossing, as seen in the picture.



The picture to the right shows the Mountaineers Trail as seen from the Whitney Trail. When you get to the second river (above) simply turn right and go up. This trail is not very well maintained, but it is perfectly visible and easy to follow.

Along the way you will come across this lovely little Shit Kit dispenser. In other words, you must pack out everything.
