We believe that the best way up Mount Whitney is from the West. Of course, this means taking the scenic route and it will take you a couple extra days. However, it also means spending more time in the wilderness, more time to acclimate, and less time spent in the overcrowded Disneyland environment of the main Whitney Trail.

The route described here goes from Horseshoe Meadow over New Army Pass, through the Miter Basin to Crabtree Lakes and on to Guitar Lake. From there we summit Mount Whitney.
